A True Relation of the Flourishing State of Pennsylvania by
John Holme, 1695
40 page paper back 6"x9"
John Holme (1632-1704) arrived in Philadelphia in
1686 and was an influential early justice of the peace. He married the widow of Nicholas Moore of Moreland Manor. His poem
A True Relation of the Flourishing of the State of Pennsylvania is considered to be the earliest example of metrical verse written in Pennsylvania.
Holme's immediate descendants settled along the lower Pennypack Creek and would
eventually give Holmesburg its name. The attached biography of John Holme
including notes on the poem was written by Holme family genealogist, Karen Kotlarchik.
